A…Food Explorer?

I feel like I’m discovering new things every day in the world of food. Monday, for instance, I learned from my roommate how  I could make smoothies with ease. And now, it’s a bit embarrassing to say, I’ve become obsessed. As in, I just got back from a grocery store run where about 40% of my items double as smoothie add ins. Blueberries, bananas, pomegranate juice, yogurt…I knew I was developing a problem I stood in front of a bunch of ginger roots, weighing one in my hand and musing about whether or not I should get it. I’ve never used a ginger root in my life, people. “Next time,” I murmured to myself as I reluctantly put the ginger root back, “next time.”

I’m diving deep into the world of healthy smoothie recipes. The green ones, the passion fruit ones, ones with peanut butter and yes, ones with ginger. I guess I never considered that this was a treat I could make myself and like without too much added processed sugar. The best part is when I make them, they keep me going for a good half day until the next feeding.

I like making new discoveries like this. I don’t think I’ll ever be on the cutting edge of food discovery, mind you. The most cutting edge meal I ever made was the time I put toothpaste on my peanut butter sandwich cookies when I was like three. It was a mistake all around, and I don’t think it’ll get me a spot on Top Chef. But finding new things to do and make for myself is really rewarding. Adding to my repertoire of Things That Are Not Fast Food is always high on my list.

At the moment, I’m preparing to start another new recipe using my already beloved Instant Pot, so we’ll see how that goes. It’s a fairly simple recipe from Budget Bytes, a site that I feel has taken me by the hand and led me gently into the world of making things for myself. I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about it, but ready to give it a go.

If YOU out there have a favorite recipe (even if it isn’t smoothie related) you want to share with me, or a site that will let me set sail on the food exploration waters, lay it down for me. I am always on alert for new food coastlines to visit!
